Hi!
My name is Ian Philpot, and I work in the Communications Department. I am responsible for executing the social media messages from the church’s Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Pinterest accounts (and I also track check-ins on FourSquare).
Since Christmas, I’ve been collecting data to understand how effective our social media campaign was this year. Below are some of the highlights:
- Staff tweets/status updates about the Christmas trailers drove an additional 500+ people to the Christmas website.
- Our Christmas invite image was retweeted 13 times, re-pinned on Pinterest a total 21 times, and received 4,185 likes and 262 shares on Facebook.
- 1 out of every 3 Foursquare check-ins was a person checking in for the first time.
- Pictures of our Christmas rehearsals received 1,155 interactions (likes, comments, shares, retweets, replies, favorites, and re-pins) across all of our social networks.
- The number of followers on all of our social networks grew faster than usual—Facebook increased by 5%, Twitter increased by 2%, Pinterest grew by 158%, Google+ grew by 24%.
In total, there are 409 data points that I’ll be analyzing to understand the successes (and shortcomings) of the Christmas social media campaign. The great news is that the analysis will help us to reach more people for our upcoming Easter services.
To those of you who helped get the message out about Christmas over social media, thank you! What may seem like a little effort in a completely electronic medium can really make a difference.
