Hey friends,
Tony Sorrentino here. I wanted to let you know about the Student Leadership Summit that Student Impact recently hosted in partnership with the WCA.
On Saturday, September 22nd, nearly 225 students (including over 50 students from Granger Community Church in Indiana) gathered in Café 20 for a full day of live worship and leadership training, much of which was taken directly from this year’s Global Leadership Summit. Some of the highlights included Craig Groeschel’s talk, “The Strongest Link” and John Ortberg’s talk “Who Is This Man?”
As the first host site for a student edition of the GLS, one of the central questions we found ourselves asking in preparation for this year was, “How do we take all of the high-level leadership content from the GLS and make it accessible and (more importantly) relevant to high school students?” The key to making this work, we discovered, would be in the facilitation, asking students the right questions and giving them ample time to discuss around tables.
At the end of the day, we found that the Student Leadership Summit does indeed “work.” Students were challenged on the importance of discipline and perseverance by Jim Collins, stretched to view the older generation in a new light by Craig Groeschel, opened to the importance of team dynamics by Patrick Lencioni, and strengthened in their view of who Jesus is by John Ortberg. And undoubtedly the highlight of the day for me was worshipping together out of Bill’s closing talk, committing to give our best to God and singing the words of a familiar song to Impact, “We’ll be that city on a hill burning brightly. We’ll be a light to the world, shining Your glory.” It was a day that challenged many (if not all) of us to be even more open to how God wants to use our lives to build His Kingdom.
